The Seniors’ Legal Access Program helps older adults overcome barriers to accessing essential legal services, such as language, cultural differences, financial constraints, and mobility challenges. It provides low-cost assistance with preparing, updating, and modifying wills and related documents, ensuring seniors receive the support they need in a clear and accessible way.

This service is offered in community locations and in clients’ first languages, including English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. Through partnerships with legal professionals, we assist with gathering necessary information, connecting seniors to affordable legal services, and supporting them until their documents are finalized.
We also host free legal education webinars and seminars covering topics like will preparation, Power of Attorney vs. Personal Directive, and managing family conflicts. These sessions include interactive elements, such as quizzes, to make learning engaging and practical.

By providing accurate legal information and personalized support, we empower seniors to make informed decisions, reducing their vulnerability and fostering independence.

This program is funded by the Alberta Law Foundation, in partnership with CA Law, Calgary Legal Guidance, and Rolandas Vaiciulis - Barrister & Solicitor.

Helping Hands / Heart to Heart Care Program

The Helping Hands / Heart to Heart Care program is a heartfelt initiative born from a group of seniors who actively participate in the programs organized by the MPC. Their inspiration comes from a desire to bring solace and support to fellow seniors who are faced with challenges and coping alone. These volunteer seniors extend a helping hand to those in need, particularly those without family or any visitors, seniors who grapple with solitude and isolation, as well as those coping with health issues. They accomplish this through activities such as curating and preparing care packages, visitation and companionship, crafting cards, and participating in joyful endeavours like the Singing Group or Line Dance Group.

This program is funded by the New Horizons For Seniors Program.

Community-Based Income Tax Services for Seniors Project

The Community-Based Income Tax Services for Seniors program provides free, in-person support to help older adults overcome barriers to filing their taxes, such as financial limitations, mobility challenges, and unfamiliarity with tax procedures. Designed for seniors with modest incomes and simple tax situations, this program ensures they can access the benefits and credits they deserve in a supportive and stress-free environment.

Appointments are held at local community hubs, where trained and compassionate volunteers provide personalized, one-on-one assistance. These volunteers are equipped with the expertise and resources needed to guide seniors through the tax-filing process, offering clear explanations while maintaining confidentiality and respect.

In collaboration with valued partners, the program prioritizes accessibility and empowerment. Along with tax preparation services, we also provide resources to help seniors better understand their tax entitlements, fostering confidence and financial independence.

By offering accessible, no-cost tax support, the program alleviates financial stress for older adults and contributes to a stronger, more connected community.
