At MPC Foundation, we serve seniors from countless cultural backgrounds. Every tradition, every gesture, every act of respect tells a story. Through our Honouring Elders Around the World series, we celebrate the many beautiful ways different cultures show love and reverence for older adults.
Because respect for elders is universal – even if the gestures look different. Have a tradition you’d like to share? Let us know in the comments.

Our annual Cultural Senses of Calgary festival was an absolute blast. Each year, we celebrate Calgary’s vibrant and diverse communities through this celebration in a new neighbourhood across the city—giving all Calgarians the opportunity to discover and appreciate the richness of our multicultural heritage.
This year’s festival was hosted by @nadineniba, with an opening by Elder Cheryle Chagnon-Greyeyes. Throughout the day, guests explored a vibrant lineup of cultural educational booths and performances from groups including @cavwa.yyc, Mantra Arts @beenaashar, @axecapoeirayyc, @ghsa_uofc, @calgaryokinawan, and from various MPC Foundation members. There were also educational cultural booths from @pccaalberta, @calgaryucc, @ucfsa, @moonstonecree, @canadiancmf and others! This annual festival is organized by MPC Foundation, and funded by @cityofcalgary and Government of Canada. We are proud to announce the successful completion of the Elder Angels project, a community initiative made possible through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). This project brought together seniors and youth to support some of Calgary's most vulnerable populations while creating meaningful engagement opportunities for older adults .
Project Impact: By the Numbers The Elder Angels project transformed a vision into tangible community impact:
Community Engagement and Learning Volunteers participated in hands-on bag-filling events held at the partner locations. A highlight of the project was the educational component. Representatives from each organization delivered powerful presentations, and volunteers received a tour of the Salvation Army's transitional housing, deepening their understanding of the populations they were serving. Volunteer Highlights The project was a resounding success, with volunteers expressing:
Acknowledgments MPC Foundation extends its deepest gratitude to the Government of Canada and the New Horizons for Seniors Program for their generous support, which made this project possible .
